New Testing Process

The adjustment to Hyundai’s fuel consumption ratings resulted from procedural errors that occurred during a process called “coast down” testing.  Coast down testing simulates aerodynamic, tire rolling resistance and drivetrain frictional losses, and provides the technical data used to program the test dynamometers that generate fuel consumption ratings.

Hyundai has found the source of the discrepancies in the testing procedure and has taken immediate actions to make the necessary ratings changes and process corrections, including relabeling of affected vehicles currently in Hyundai showrooms.
